Isotopes article for Dane101

Springfield IsotopesI really liked how this turned out, so it gets posted here as well…

What happens when you combine Madison’s favorite local baseball team with one of the greatest television shows of all time?

If you said the UW Badgers performing a musical about the off-camera antics of the cast from Diff’rent Strokes, sit down.

But, if you said The Madison Mallards Simpson’s Night, featuring the Mallards in Springfield Isotopes jerseys, you are one of life’s winners.

The Mallards will take on the Battle Creek Bombers tonight at 7:05 p.m. wearing the uniforms of Springfield’s minor league team. The Outtatoons will perform Simpson’s cover songs, and there will be trivia and giveaways throughout the night.

It’s still early in the season, but the Mallards resemble the Isotopes team that won the minor league championship rather then the one that lost 26 games in a row. After an extra inning loss last night, the Mallards currently sit in second place, four games behind division-leading Green Bay.

For the Simpson’s fan that is planning to come to the ballpark tonight but has never been to a Mallards game before, here is what you can expect, could see, and probably will not see.

Can expect – baseball, Isotopes uniforms, umpire heckling, Simpson’s music, trivia, beer (The cause of… and solution to… all life’s problems), dancing drunks, the “Baby Elephant Walk.”

Could see – Duff Man, a win by the Isotopes, Dancing Homer, a home run, Itchy & Scratchy, Great Dane Duff Brew (yes, I’m being optimistic on this one).

Will probably not see – The team move to Albuquerque after the season, Gary Coleman, Coach Thieleke and the umpires in a warm embrace, Sideshow Bob, 72oz tubs of beer for $1.25 each, Poochie.
