A Joke with No One Laughing

No matter what choice the NCAA and BCS make today, it will be the wrong one.

With West Virginia losing to Pittsburg, it opened the door for 11-1 Ohio State to play in a national championship game. With Missouri’s loss to Oklahoma, it added chaos to the national title picture.

This is a worst-case scenario for the BCS. No matter which team faces Ohio State, there will be a great deal of controversy surrounding the pick. While Sports networks and journalists love this spirited debate, it only hurts college football.

There are only two teams that should be considered to play against Ohio State; 11-1 Kansas and 12-0 Hawaii. It is doubtful either of these teams will play in New Orleans on January 7th. Georgia (10-2) is the next team in the BCS rankings, but they did not play this week. LSU (11-2) is the popular favorite after winning the SEC championship game, however they have had more chances they Britney had at keeping her baby, and blown them just as badly.

The moral of this story – the current BCS system is a joke. A bad joke that leaves everyone feeling a bit awkward once the punch line is delivered. This is not breaking news to any sports fan, as very few like the current system. The clamoring for a playoff system will be louder than ever over the coming weeks.

However, the same people that criticize this joke are the same ones that will continue to listen; watching every bowl game between now and January 7th. Their actions speak louder then their words, and keep the system running unchanged.

The hypocrites that criticize listen to more bad jokes.

If no one watched these meaningless games, the BCS would be forced to change the system. Without viewers, there is no advertising; the life blood that keeps the current system alive. This is the only way to facilitate change.

If you are a real college football fan, boycott all bowl games this holiday season. It is the only way to prevent making the national championship as big a joke as its governing body.
