One week is an eternity.
One week can be filled with birthday celebrations, outings with old friends, and the election of a new president. Add in Halloween parties and a job with a time-consuming commute, and you are left with very little free time.
By the end of today, I should be over 10,000 words for NaNoWriMo. I’m currently sitting at about 1800, not counting what I hope to write tonight. While my weekends and days have been filled with outings and festivities, that is not the main reason I am so far behind.
Since I last completed NaNoWriMo, my writing style has changed. I’m more linear, and feel compelled to complete a section/chapter before jumping on to something else. In the past, if there was an area I was stuck on, I would just jump and write something in the middle and come back later. I hope that this is something that changes as I get back into scribbling my thoughts down daily.
This is causing problems as there is some research I want to do about comas and mythology to make my novel more believable. The thing is, when trying to write a novel in a month, you cannot waste your time on research – that is what December is for.
When I completed my novel, I got out to a fast start. I reached the 10k mark about four days into the contest. With Thanksgiving weekend at the very end of the month, I need to be close to done by then, as a significant amount of time will be spent with family and friends.
I know if I just sit down and write at the same time everyday, I’ll get back in the flow. Plan to start that tonight, and continue tomorrow morning. That’s right kids, 2-a-days until I get caught up.
The craziness ends this weekend. After that there will be no “I have plans” excuse. Also, since I plan to spend some quality time in Beloit, I know I’ll have plenty of free time to catch up. Not too worried yet…
And the first week is not over…
