NaNoWriMo, update 2

It doesn’t take much to reignite a spark.

While in Milwaukee visiting friends last weekend, a buddy asked me how novel writing month was going.  I was a bit dejected as I was significantly behind where I hoped to be.

“Well, what is your story about,” he asked me.

I broke into my standard explanation of the plot – a child is hit by a car while playing with friends and is in a coma for years.  Doctors eventually find a way to try and bring the now-man out of his coma, and that’s where the fun starts.

And that’s when it happened.  I was reenergized about writing just by explaining the plot to a friend.

Admittedly it’s been a crazy week for me, but when is a week sane?  A ton of work for my web production company (OutsideTheBrain.com) including some self promotion has kept my nights occupied.  A trip last weekend to Milwaukee to see a friend who lives in Florida killed two-plus days of free time.

There are always excuses that can be made; reasons for not succeeding or (even worse) quitting.  I will not be a slave to excuses.  Sure, there are only so many hours in a day, but there are a lot of time consuming activities I could “neglect” for November.

I’ve managed to roll along, and I am currently sitting at 15,403 words for the year.  I’m 10k words down from where I need to be, and Thanksgiving weekend is either going to make or break my efforts.  My confidence is high, and I refuse to quit no matter how much work I need to complete.

More updates to come, including some of my favorite bits so far.
