I agree about “Flames.” I enjoyed the non-smoking bit, but most of it was kinda blah to me. I even contemplated skipping a couple chapters, but decided that was cheating

What did you think of When You Are Engulfed in Flames? I’m a big Sedaris fan, but I was a little disappointed by the book. I felt like it lacked some of the whimsy of his previous books — something about it just felt forced told me they loved it, which was curious.

Love the photo theme idea for project 365. I plan to do some of that as well, was just reading up about it on Flickr this morning. Apparently there will be prompts on the bigger group, maybe our small group should come up with our own ideas, too!

This reminds me a lot of Anne Lamotte’s book Bird by Bird, especially her chapter “Shitty First Drafts.” She talks about how sometimes the hardest thing is just to get started because the idea of a first draft can be scary. But once you accept that first drafts are usually bad and will be revised, then it gets easier (at least for me). So the idea of shitting out a first draft of a novel isn’t such a bad one
